Is Organic Better Than Metal Roofing in Baton Rouge?

Robbie Chatelain • July 9, 2013

When it comes to your roof, it can be one of the biggest investments and protectors of your biggest asset, your home. Over the past few years there has been a surge in the popularity of organic roofing materials. However, these new fads and supplies may not be the best thing for your Baton Rouge roof.

While organic food and clothing and other items have environmental and health benefits, organic features for your roof have been found to be problematic. A main detractor is the rate at which organic shingles become de-laminated. While these are very environment friendly, remember they were designed to return to the Earth.

For anyone that opted for an organically shingled roof around 2005 or 2006, they are likely in need of an entire roof replacement. This is very unfortunate considering that a traditionally shingled roof typically has a 10-20 year warranty. If you still desire a “green” solution for your roofing needs, but would like the dependability of a traditional roof, a metal roof may just what you need. Metal roofs are practically indestructible, require little to no maintenance and are environmentally friendly. The cost will be a little higher, but will last a lifetime.
