The Lifespan of a Metal Roof in Baton Rouge

Robbie Chatelain • May 15, 2014

When it comes to considering a new roof for your Baton Rouge home there a lot of things to keep in mind. The first thing that may come to your mind is, “I never want to do this again”. If this is the case, a metal roof may meet that desire.

That isn’t to say that a slate, tile or shingled roof will need constant attention, repair or replacement, however, on average, a metal roof will last two to three times longer than a shingled roof. Well how long is two to three times? An asphalt shingle can last anywhere from 12 to 20 years, or longer depending on conditions and care. Therefore, your metal roof could last close to 60 years or longer. It’s not uncommon to find a 50, 60, 70 year old home with its original roof.

The advantages that lead a metal roof to such longevity are simple. A metal roof is will never decompose. If cared for correctly, cleared of debris and examined or inspected seasonally, it can last as long if not longer than your home .

At Cribbs Inc., we’ve been installing and caring for metal roofs in the Baton Rouge area for over 50 years. If your roof needs to be replaced and you’re considering a metal roof, or need materials for your metal roof, click here .
