In Baton Rouge and all across south Louisiana, the places we spend Sunday mornings, and many other times during the week, are special places. While the different churches we attend may vary from location to architecture to age, they all have a roof. For older churches and other sanctuary buildings, the maintenance and care for their roof can be a major undertaking and expense. It is important to know all of your options in regards to materials whether or not a replacement is needed.

Roofing Materials

Depending on the architecture and styling of the Church’s structure, there are a variety options for roofing materials.

Metal: Metal roofs offer tremendous durability and very little in the way of maintenance. This initial cost is usually 2-3x that of other roofs, but can have a lifespan of 20 to 50 years.

Slate: Slate roofs offer an elegant appearance. They are also very fire resistant and environmentally friendly. However they are fragile and expensive.

Tile: This can also be a more expensive option, however, the Spanish influence on many of the buildings and churches in our part of the state are idea for a tile roof. Tile roofs are very durable and can customized with a variety of colors.

Shingle: Composite shingles are an affordable option. They provide a clean look and can be coated or customized to offer other benefits, such as energy-efficiency.
