Is Your Roof Summer Ready?

Hate it or love it, summer is nearly here. It’s time for spring cleaning and getting your outdoor projects done while we still have some temperate spring weather ahead of us. While many are focusing on pressure washing the house, planting flower beds, or redesigning patio space, taking just a little time to do some home inspection is a great idea as well.

Among the first things you should inspect is your roof. With the freezes we had at the beginning of the year, and the humidity and rainfall that are always a factor in Louisiana, your roof may have incurred some damage or need some attention before the summer months arrive.

Check your gutters

One of the first things you should do is make sure that drainage from your roof is efficient. Louisiana experiences a lot of rain throughout the spring and summer making properly functioning gutters a necessity.

Use a ladder to get eye level with your gutters and down spouts . From there, you will be able to see all the debris and trash that has accumulated. If you see that there is anything that could potentially clog your gutters, go ahead and remove it. Blocked drainage could produce standing water on the roof which can cause rot and leaks.

Look for Signs of Damage to Your Roof

If you are comfortable getting on top of your house, it would be a smart idea to inspect your roof . Signs like damaged or missing shingles, warped or soft spots in the roof, or any other physical indications of structural damage can be seen from an inspection performed by climbing to the roof.

Check Ventilation in Your Attic

If you notice that your heating bill has increased drastically from last year, you may have problems with insulation in your attic . Accessing your attic through the house or garage can help you look at your roof from the inside. If you notice any damaged or missing insulation, replace it to keep your roof safe and your energy bill from spiking.

Your roof is one of the most important parts of your home, and inspecting it is the best way to actively prevent severe structural damage. If you suspect that you may need repairs on your roof, call Cribbs Inc of Baton Rouge for a professional inspection and unmatched customer service
