We are no strangers to wet weather here in south Louisiana. It's when these periods of rain and thunderstorms roll through that we begin to notice some areas of our homes that need attention. It could be that spot in the yard that collects water, it could be a leak in the roof or you could notice that water is being ineffectively channeled from your roof, down the grade of your yard away the house. So before the really wet seasons of spring and summer arrive, let’s take a look at some common gutter problems.
Debris Accumulation in Gutters
Loose debris can become compressed into thin sheets over time. As these layers grow, it can cause water to back up into the roof’s material. This additional water can accelerate the aging process of your roof.
Gutter Clogs
Large debris and other objects that create blockages in your gutters can lead rain water and any other precipitation to fall out of the gutters into places where it can cause damage. Clogged gutter can also cause: foundation damage, soil erosion, dry rot, mold and more.
Other common gutter problems include:
- Damage from ladders
- Splitting seams
- Pest infestation
- Stains
- Damage from trees and/or storms
