Most things we use on a daily basis have their own share of common problems. A tire on your bike can leak air. Your computer can run slowly if you have too many files open. The faucet in your kitchen can drip. And of course all of these common problems have solutions. A patch on bike tire, closing some programs on your laptop, and adjusting the faucet can all rectify these issues. Your home’s roof is no different. While there can be a wide variety of problems or issues stemming from a wide range of causes, we have chosen three very common roof problems that can appear in Baton Rouge homes.

Ponding Water on the Roof

South Louisiana’s wet climate can take a toll on your home’s roof. One major problem that can occur is pooling water. Consistently ponding water on your roof creates extra weight, strain and stress on the structure. Leaks and other damage can occur as a result. If you notice ponding water on your roof it is important to address as soon as possible, however, before you make a repair it is critical to determine what is causing the water to pool, otherwise you may be revisiting this same problem.

Roof Leaks

Leaks in your roof can stem from a number of different causes, but this is one problem that needs to be immediately addressed before it causes damage to other areas of your home. Storm damage, poor installation or repairs and lack of maintenance can all create circumstances that allow your roof to leak. If you notice water spots on your ceilings or walls it is time to take a look at your roof. But before you head up on the ladder, check the attic. Look for signs of moisture or visible light. It could be something as simple as replacing a few shingles or some flashing, it could also be a more significant problem.

Lack of Roof Maintenance

Just as you change to the oil in your car and replace your air conditioning filter, your roof requires maintenance. These simple actions can have a major financial and safety impact on your home. At least a couple of times a year it is a good idea to take a look at your roof and: remove any debris, replace or repair any damaged shingles, clean your gutters , etc. This prevents unnecessary damage and gives you the opportunity to make minor repairs instead of major repairs or even a roof replacement.

These are just three common problems that can negatively impact your roof. If you’ve noticed any of these or others it is important to trust a local, licensed roofing company. For over 50 years Cribbs Incorporated has been caring for Baton Rouge homes and businesses.
